Welcome to Sri Lanka Animal Health Information System (SLAHIS)

SLAHIS is the epidemiological information system of the Department of Animal Production and Health of the Ministry of Livestock and Rural Community Development. Disease information are reported by the Divisional Veterinary Surgeons who function under the Provincial Departments of Animal Production and Health as well as District Level Veterinary Investigation officers.

Animal Health Information is the key tool which assists in epidemiology and monitoring of performance of disease control programs. In descriptive epidemiology, it discuss about time, place and person/animal so that it could be accurately described and in analytical epidemiology it describes the host, agent and the environment. The epidemiological data collected on surveillance and disease investigation are used for the purposes of disease control, resource allocation, planning and many other purposes. Therefore, the epidemiological organizations have to be extremely careful of the data quality and hence consider about sensitivity, simplicity, acceptability, representativeness, timeliness, reliability or precision and completeness of data.

In this system, data are converted into information so that they could be used effectively and efficiently in above indicated purposes. The information generated through the system could be observed in the form of reports at different levels such as Hon Minister, Secretary, Director General, Provincial Secretary, Provincial Director, Directors of DAPH, Veterinary Investigation Officers, and Divisional Veterinary Surgeons by logging into the system. Key disease information which are of public importance are displayed here so that they can be aware of the basic animal health status of the country.
